The maiden IIW 2019 happened in 2019 at Kolkata, India and the community gathered through five different events and discussed the rapid technological development and shifting domestic policy environment on Internet In India and the related tension among the decision makers and implementers in making the right choice and remain relevant. The report of the event is available here.
The Internet has taken the challenge of being relevant for decades now and the upcoming decade is the most challenging for it to remain relevant to ensure the openness and collaboration principles are maintained. The current pandemic situation has proved in entirety that the world could function, collaborate, work and infact meet with soial distancing norms due to this technology. So what are the challenges which Internet will have to overcome namely, technical or political, what is expected from the research community in this context and what is to be expected from the various nation states who are increasingly trying to have a larger control on this piece of technology will decide the future of this technology.
IIW 2020 was a virtual edition and tried to keep alive the core principles of being a platform provider and bringing the various stakeholder communities together to discuss among themselves and outline the key challenges and possible solutions. The synthesis document of IIW 2020 will become a global resource for decision makers and implementors to move ahead and carve out the next set of requirements. We had five events spread over the month of December. The recording are availble on youtube and links are given in this page. The page summaries event proceedings.
